Tigers Fall To Region Foe CBS-Houston
College of Biblical Studies held off a late push from Champion Christian to earn an 80–75 win Thursday night (Jan. 15, 2026) in Houston.
CBS carried a 39–35 edge into halftime and matched Champion Christian point-for-point after the break (41–40) to preserve the five-point victory. The difference came down to efficiency at the line and from three: CBS hit 14-of-19 free throws (73.7%) and knocked down 8 threes, while Champion Christian went 6-of-12 at the stripe (50.0%) and struggled from deep at 5-of-26 (19.2%).
Trayvon Martinez powered the CBS offense with a game-high 22 points on 7-of-12 shooting, adding 3-of-6 from three and 5-of-6 at the foul line. Darion Ramos provided a major lift off the bench with 19 points (7-of-15) and two threes, and Frank Madubuko controlled the paint with 14 points and a dominant 15 rebounds (5 offensive). Alvin Kay filled the stat sheet defensively with four blocks and nine rebounds.
Champion Christian got strong scoring nights from Kris Barnett (17 points on 8-of-12) and Adrian Brown (18 points off the bench on 8-of-16), while Trevor Vertiz added 13 points and Cam Parker posted an all-around line with 11 points and 9 assists. But the visitors couldn't overcome cold perimeter shooting—FredTravious Benjam went 1-of-7 from three—and left points at the line, which loomed large in a one-possession game late.
Team-wise, CBS won the rebounding battle 38–35 and finished with seven blocks, helping them withstand Champion Christian's 19 assists and keep control in the final minute.
