Champion Christian College used a big second half and a barrage of 3-pointers to pull away from Dallas Christian College for a 94–82 win early Thursday at the Champion Christian Community Center.
The game was tight at the break, with Champion Christian carrying a 41–37 lead, but the home side opened things up after halftime by winning the second period 53–45. Champion shot 47.9% overall (34-of-71) and 41.2% from three (14-of-34), turning efficient perimeter scoring into separation down the stretch.
Tervor Vertiz led all scorers with 26 points on a scorching 9-of-12 shooting, drilling 6-of-8 from beyond the arc. Fred'Travious Benjamin added 15 points and 8 rebounds, while Kris Barnett posted 14 points and 8 boards. Cam Parker orchestrated the offense with 9 assists to go with 13 points, and Damian Bohlman chipped in 8 points, 8 rebounds, and 5 assists as Champion finished with 25 assists on 34 made field goals.
Dallas Christian stayed competitive behind balanced scoring but couldn't match Champion's perimeter output. Nick Lancit scored 14 points and grabbed 9 rebounds, and Jason Ezeadiugwu provided a spark off the bench with 12 points on 4-of-8 shooting, including 3-of-4 from three. Carlas Canady and Seth Mays each scored 11, with Canady also handing out 5 assists. Dallas Christian shot 41.4% (29-of-70) and 32.0% from three (8-of-25), and went 16-of-22 at the line, but the difference from deep (Champion +18 points on threes) proved decisive.
